Mana is an anomalous material that can be found in hyperspace. Mana appears in areas of hyperspace where reality corrections occur to real or superreal materials. At its most common allotrope, mana appears as an amorphous dull purple solid at room temperature, easily crumbling into a dust. Mana naturally appears orbiting subspace anomalies as rings, near smaller spatial anomalies such as vortices, and can sometimes be found in trace amounts in hyperdrives that have seen prolonged use. Mana can also be found rarely in other places in hyperspace, and some living organisms have even been reported containing it.
Mana has many uses both in its base elemental form, and in compounds that utilize mana. When its dust form is consumed by organic beings, the resulting effects it has on their brain makes the organism greatly more susceptible to potentially dangerous psionic awakenings. While the mana is affecting their body, the individual’s subconscious mind is able to manipulate flow to a much higher degree, causing more frequent and more dangerous involuntary will manifestations. It also increases the rate at which a psion can convert flux, empowering their abilities. However, the usage of mana as a drug has numerous negative side effects, negatively impacting the user’s mental stability and inducing severe cuil sickness with prolonged use.
Outside of its use of a drug, mana’s most unique property is its ability to conduct cuil flux. This property isn’t that useful in its elemental form, but can be utilized properly using mana compounds such as mana glass (MaO3), rods of which can safely transfer flux to different places. Certain societies make use of this property in special technologies.
Mana is a minor cuil emitter.
