In the 33rd century, technology is more advanced than ever previously thought.
Advanced ship technology allows us to travel the galaxy. Hover cars drift through cities of advanced architecture. Teleporters allow instantaneous travel to different places. The proliferation of tachyonic communication led to the establishment of a galactic internet called the Nexus. Computers have become advanced and smaller and servers often make use of quantum computation. Medical technology has advanced, allowing for genetic modification, the curing of diseases and ailments once thought incurable, and even cloning. Advanced weapons have come to fruition; blades with monoatomic edges, railguns and caseless ammunition, plasma and laser weapons, and entertainment has soared through the proliferation of virtual reality games indistinguishable from actual reality.
The vastly advanced technology of the future has solved many problems - but it has created many. Many consider certain weapons to be unethical, the identity of clones and synthetic lifeforms are widely disputed, and some even reject life, choosing to live instead in simulation free of pain. How your character uses technology and interprets these issues, is ultimately up to you.
These are technologies that players have applied for in order to use them in roleplay. Note that not all of them are able to be used, and some may even no longer be canon.
