Haven's oldest district, the Yggdrasil District is Haven’s most natural district, getting its name from the Life Tree it is built around, called Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil's roots span across much of Haven City, encompassing over 80% of all of Haven’s plant life. Shrouded by green and gold lights and a beautiful view of the sky, the Yggdrasil District offers Haven City’s agricultural produce and is home to a majority of Haven’s Florans, Agarans, and other species. The buildings itself are much smaller in comparison to the skyscrapers of Haven City, instead primarily being made out of the hard Vitawood of Yggdrasil, with many buildings being built along the tree or in its branches or roots.
A time ago, the Yggdrasil tree suffered greatly following the exploitation of its tissues by the Ascended Empire of the Shin’kali after the Corrav Treaty. Because of this, much of the Yggdrasilian population has been displaced to the outer sections of the district, with many natives outraged from the desecration of their sacred tree. Recently, however, populations are beginning to resettle the inner Yggdrasil District following the healing of their tree by Arjun Kapur.
Political Information
The people of the Yggdrasil District tend to be very spiritual and traditional, similar to the Rendera District but in a more shamanistic manner. They are generally a more liberal district socially and economically, but they can be viewed as being conservative in a similar way to luddites. They will prefer government officials that are of species that normally inhabit Yggdrasil like Florans or Anoloa. Yggdrasilites will heavily support efforts to protect the environment, but will heavily oppose efforts to expand industry. Yggdrasilites also often oppose war, disliking any attempts to expand the military beyond what is needed for the defense of Haven, and they will also oppose rapid expansionism outside of the Haven System. After the Shifter Crisis, many Yggdrasilites feel as though they've been betrayed by the wider Fringe and the rest of the Federation that failed to protect or assist them in the aftermath, and as such they harbor a distrust for outsiders that has yet to be mended.
