A vibroblade is any bladed weapon that utilizes a high frequency vibration to cut through materials faster. Typical blades, even with incredibly hard atom edged materials such as nanocrystalline diamond, are ineffective against most modern armors without an incredible force behind them. To solve that problem, a great amount of kinetic energy can be applied to a blade in the form of a vibration that allows the cutting edge to repeatedly make contact with a surface at high velocity. Vibroblades intended as a weapon typically include further technology to maintain the cutting edge by redepositing material as needed, using a high-frequency oscillator to vibrate the edge.
A significantly weaker, but non-electronic substitute to vibroblades are monoblades.
