EMP Grenades are grenades that, when activated after being thrown, produce a series of strong electromagnetic pulses that can disable or even destroy electronics that are in its radius, a useful tool against enemies such as androids, or people using sensitive weapons such as coilguns or plasma blades. The interior of the EMP grenade is a large, two-headed coil of cerullium wire that helps to produce and control the pulse by condensing the radius of the field. The center of the grenade contains a fully charged supercapacitor that when activated, overloads the coil with a high current that creates a series of strong pulses before losing power and frying its components. Do to these relatively simple components, EMP grenades are not difficult to create, needing only a trigger mechanism, charged supercapacitor, and an abundant amount of coiled wire. One must be careful when handling supercapacitors, as they are capable of killing with a high voltage electric shock.
Most EMP grenades will have an effective radius of 6 meters, affecting electronics that are not protected by adequate shielding. Most robot and android bodies and prosthetic limbs have a protective EMP layer made from a thin layer of cerulium or other material, but they can be affected by an EMP as soon as that shielding is breached or cut. Most electronics, androids included, will be stunned for 3 combat turns if affected by an EMP grenade, and certain weapons such as coilguns, vibroblades, plasma blades, etc. will be disabled or permanently damaged.
Today, most EMP grenades can be bought for around 80 pixels.
