Augmented reality, also called AR, while similar to virtual reality in its use of presented visuals to trick the brain into believing the imaginary, diverges in one major way. While virtual reality completely immerses its user into a pretend world through the use of headsets and other auxiliary equipment to create a false world around them with fully simulated surroundings, augmented realty, as the name suggests, augments real life. Through the use of devices such as smart glasses, or even taking advantage of the camera software built nearly universally into datapads, computers, and phones, augmented reality projects digital renderings into the real world in front of a person. Used widely in both the entertainment industry, particularly in video games which try to blur the lines between life and fiction, and business, AR can allow for someone to sit at an empty table, put on a pair of glasses or hold up their device, and suddenly see a group of friends or colleagues in front of them.
