The by far larger deployed type of artificial intelligence is the weak AI, also known as narrow AI, applied AI or virtual intelligence (VI). Like a millennium before, this type of intelligences finds application in a lot of fields and can be tailored to do diverse tasks. They are found pretty much anywhere, from the small security assistant that keeps your datapad clear of any viruses to the popular S.A.I.L. which supervises entire spacecraft. Weak AI are also capable of improving themselves by learning through practice, but all come with preconditioning for whatever task they are created for. Their extent of learning is limited to what they are programmed to do since they work on a goal-based agent and will always try to move to the optimal course to reach that goal. Some of them may be created to appear sentient by using a synthesized voice with a wide vocabulary for example, but fact is that a weak AI can not be truly sentient and self-aware unlike the strong AI.
